Empowering and Guiding Excellence
A roadmap of our support programs for all career levels
Our goal is to build and strengthen an infrastructure that promotes researchers from different research directions and different fields to work together on key challenges in particle physics and thermal science. To do so, we established new opportunities for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students, while also offering various funding opportunities for junior researchers. In addition, we set out to attract scientists throughout the world to come together to accelerate progress in research and technological developments. Programs like the graduate student program demonstrate our dedication to starting this process at an early career stage. We are committed to establishing and maintaining a culture of fairness and respect. Furthermore, we are actively implementing measures to assist the career advancement for all career levels, even on a relative short-term scale, while the Diversity in Leadership Program has supported a growing awareness of DEI topics within our community.
Conference Support
Our conference provides internal exchange and networking, and develops connections with internationally renowned guest speakers. We also provide financial and organizational support for other international conferences relevant to SDIAT researchers.
Professor Ruiqiang Guo: My research team started from SDIAT
He joined SDIAT in 2020 and now leads the thermal functional materials research team.
Why did you choose SDIAT?
Professor Ruiqiang Guo: High Mountains and Long Roads, Time Flows Like a Song. As one of the first returning overseas scholars to join SDIAT, I have journeyed through four remarkable years with the institute. Thermal functional materials stand as pivotal core technologies to resolve the bottleneck challenges in semiconductor chips — a field that aligns closely with my long-standing research in micro/nanoscale heat transfer. When I returned to China in 2020, I was deeply motivated to contribute to overcoming critical bottlenecks through research on thermal functional materials. My aspirations resonated perfectly with SDIAT's strategic vision. With its strong support, I established an international research team shortly after joining. SDIAT not only provides world-class research facilities but also fosters an environment that allows us to focus on our study without distractions. This has enabled us to achieve significant breakthroughs in material properties in a short time. I extend my sincere gratitude to SDIAT for its steadfast support. Moving forward, I will remain committed to the original mission of a scientific researcher: leading my team to explore cutting-edge technologies, advance funda-mental research, tackle core technical challenges, and strive to achieve the mission of SDIAT, which is to conduct basic research, innovate key technologies, serve national strategies, and advance modern civilization.
Nurturing Young Talents
100+ Students Over 100 graduate students have joined our training program.
SDIAT Summer School
International undergraduates work on hands-on research projects in SDIAT groups.
Every year, we invite around 20 outstanding students from all over the world to spend a science summer at SDIAT. The four-week program gives participants the opportunity to deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge in particle physics and thermal science. The special feature of the program is that participants carry out under the guidance of a mentor and work on an individual research project based on their interests. By the end of the program, students have gained first-hand expert knowledge in relevant fields. Some candidates have remained in contact with our research teams beyond the completion of their projects and continue to participate in ongoing projects. In addition to working on a topic within the framework of the research project, the program offers a broad insight into research within SDIAT and our collaborative institutions through lectures, laboratory visits, and smaller experiments.
Direct impact on career paths
“SDIAT’s science summer school was a precious opportunity to experience the charm of scientific research. I find it especially memorable that, I had the rare chance to attend the lecture by Professor Samuel C.C. Ting, one of the world’s top scientists.” (Yijia Chen, Undergraduate Student, University College London)
4 Reasons to Enroll in the Graduate Student Program
1. Numerous specialized lectures
SDIAT scientists teach specialized lectures covering students’ research fields.
2. Being part of the SDIAT
family Students perform their research phase within the group of SDIAT scientists, being part of our lively scientific community.
3. Networking and exchange
We cooperate and exchange extensively with other graduate programs and renowned institutions. Exchange visits of up to a year to institutions worldwide are possible.
4. Professional development
The programs ensure the acquisition of essential skills for building a successful career in science or industry, such as science communication, presentation techniques, diversity and leadership.
