Weiwei Xu Participated in the 2019 Conference on TeV Particle Astrophysics and Delivered a Lecture
From the 2nd to the 6th of December, 2019, Professor Weiwei Xu participated in the 2019 Conference on TeV Particle Astrophysics (TeVPA 2019), held at the University of Sydney, Australia. Representing the international Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) collaboration, he delivered a plenary lecture presenting the latest experimental results from the AMS mission.
TeVPA is an annual conference sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). This year’s meeting brought together over 200 researchers from around the world to share and discuss recent advances in cosmic rays, cosmology, dark matter, extragalactic astronomy, gamma-ray astronomy, gravitational waves, particle physics, and neutrino research.
Mounted on the International Space Station, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) is currently the only large-scale magnetic spectrometer operating in space. Since its deployment on the 19th of May, 2011, AMS has recorded over 150 billion cosmic ray events and published 16 major scientific results. At the conference, the AMS collaboration presented its latest findings on several key topics, including cosmic particles potentially related to dark matter, the energy spectra and structural characteristics of atomic nuclei in space, heavy antimatter, solar physics, and cosmic radiation. The high precision of AMS data was widely praised and generated significant interest among the participants.
In addition to the plenary talk, the AMS team delivered two presentations during parallel sessions and presented a poster detailing recent measurements of fundamental particles, primary cosmic rays, and secondary cosmic rays. The AMS poster was recognized with the Best Poster Presentation Award of the conference.
