Jiayi Liu and Zheng Gong Meet with Attendees of Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology Inaugural Symposium

In the afternoon of the 9th of November, Jiayi Liu, Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and Zheng Gong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Shandong, met in Jinan with Chinese and international guests attending the symposium marking the establishment of the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology. Professor Samuel C. C. Ting, Nobel Laureate in Physics and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the province. He congratulated Shandong on the upcoming establishment of the institute, stating that its founding will help further strengthen international cooperation and play a key role in advancing scientific and technological innovation.  

In the afternoon of the 9th of November, Jiayi Liu, Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and Gong Zheng, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Shandong, met in Jinan with Chinese and international guests attending the symposium held in honor of the establishment of the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology.

On behalf of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, Jiayi Liu extended a warm welcome to all attendees. He noted that the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology would be officially inaugurated the following day, calling it a concrete action to thoroughly implement General Secretary Jinping Xi ’s important instructions on promoting scientific and technological innovation. He emphasized that the establishment of the institute would not have been possible without the strong support of Professor Samuel C. C. Ting and the Ministry of Science and Technology. Jiayi Liu expressed his sincere appreciation for the dedication, support, and hard work of all those involved. He expressed his hope that, through sustained collective efforts, the institute will deliver significant scientific achievements, accelerate the transformation of research into real-world applications, and contribute to Shandong’s high-quality development—as well as to the broader progress of national innovation and global scientific advancement.

Minister of Science and Technology Zhigang Wang emphasized that driving scientific and technological innovation relies on deep engagement with the broader scientific community, the creation of a supportive environment and ecosystem, and the backing of major innovation platforms. Committed to the principle of open cooperation, China welcomes collaboration with scientists around the world to jointly develop the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology. Located in a vibrant center of innovation, the Institute aims to foster scientific spirit and generate significant research achievements.

Nobel Laureate in Physics and MIT Professor Samuel C. C. Ting expressed his gratitude to Shandong Province for its warm welcome and extended his congratulations on the upcoming establishment of the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology. He expressed confidence that the institute will play a positive role in deepening international cooperation and driving progress in scientific and technological innovation.

Huawu He, Vice President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Shuiping Qiu, Party Secretary of Peking University; along with provincial leaders Ke Wang, Licheng Sun, Wen Ling, and Jie Yu attended the meeting.
