On the morning of November 10, the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology was officially established in Jinan. To mark the occasion, the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government held a high-level inauguration symposium, where participants studied and implemented President Jinping Xi’s important remarks on scientific and technological innovation, as well as his key instructions on the development of Shandong Province. The event aimed to jointly witness the founding of the Institute, promote fundamental scientific research, enhance original innovation capacity, and accelerate the development of Shandong into a technologically advanced and innovation-driven province.

Jiayi Liu, Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee; Zhigang Wang , Minister of Science and Technology; Chunli Bai, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Professor Samuel C. C. Ting, Nobel Laureate in Physics and Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, attended the symposium and delivered speeches. Zheng Gong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Shandong Province, presided over the event.

In his speech, Chunli Bai stated that Shandong Province is currently earnestly implementing the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee. By focusing on the forefront of global scientific and technological innovation and aligning closely with the region's needs for economic and social development, Shandong is mobilizing its full strength to establish a new, world-class research and development institution. This is a visionary and strategic initiative that fully demonstrates the strong political awareness and deep sense of mission of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Government.

He expressed confidence that, with the strong support of the provincial government and all sectors of society, the rich cultural heritage of Shandong, and the dedication of a group of passionate scientists committed to innovation, the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology will become a sanctuary for innovation that attracts top international scientific talent, a powerful engine driving Shandong’s high-quality development, and a new beacon at the forefront of scientific and technological advancement.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will fully support the development of the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology. CAS will encourage and promote comprehensive collaboration between its affiliated institutions and the Institute in areas such as the construction of major scientific infrastructure, talent development, innovative research and development, and the commercialization of research outcomes. CAS will continue to leverage its strengths in scientific expertise and human resources to accelerate the transformation of scientific advances into real productive forces and to contribute to the high-quality economic and social development of Shandong Province.
