MOST Minister Zhigang Wang Speaks at Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology Inaugural Symposium
Morning of November 10, the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology was officially established in Jinan. To mark the occasion, the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government held a high-level inauguration symposium, where participants studied and implemented President Jinping Xi’s important remarks on scientific and technological innovation, as well as his key instructions on the development of Shandong Province. The event aimed to jointly witness the founding of the Institute, promote fundamental scientific research, enhance original innovation capacity, and accelerate the development of Shandong into a technologically advanced and innovation-driven province.

Jiayi Liu, Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee; Zhigang Wang, Minister of Science and Technology; Chunli Bai, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Professor Samuel C. C. Ting, Nobel Laureate in Physics and Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, attended the symposium and delivered speeches. Zheng Gong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Shandong Province, presided over the event.

In his speech, Zhigang Wang remarked that today’s gathering of renowned scientists from China and abroad alongside young scholars to jointly explore and discuss issues related to scientific and technological innovation is a significant event in the global scientific community. It serves as a powerful testament to the idea that science knows no borders.

China attaches great importance to the development of science and technology, placing innovation at the core of its economic and social development strategy. In recent years, we have thoroughly studied and implemented General Secretary Jinping Xi’s important remarks on innovation, upholding the principle that innovation is the primary driving force for development. We have continuously improved the institutional mechanisms for innovation, using scientific and technological advancement to guide broader innovation efforts.

Today, China is opening its doors wider to the world, and scientific cooperation has become a vital component of international collaboration. We are committed to working with scientists from all countries to address major scientific challenges of global concern and to contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Shandong is a major province for science and technology, with leading capabilities in fields such as marine science and supercomputing. Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology, along with other key innovation platforms in the province, is integrating basic research, applied research, technological innovation, and industrial development. This integrated approach will foster a thriving ecosystem for innovation.

The Ministry of Science and Technology will fully support and facilitate the development of the Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology. We also warmly welcome and support foreign scientists who come to China—and to Shandong—to participate in scientific research and the transformation of research outcomes. Together, we aim to enhance international scientific collaboration and contribute wisdom and strength to the advancement of humanity.
