On June 25, Professor Du Wenjing from the School of Nuclear Science and Energy Power, Shandong University, led the Class of 2023 Industrial Ecology Base Program to carry out research and practical activities at Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology (SDIAT). The exchange focused on boosting basic research, exploring cutting-edge technologies, and joint postgraduate training. Cui Zheng, Member of the Party Committee and Director of the Thermal Science Research Center at SDIAT, accompanied the visit.

During the study tour, faculty and students visited the Institute’s library, Precision Measurement Laboratory, Cryogenic Laboratory, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) Global Data Center, and Class 1000 Cleanroom Laboratory in sequence. Researchers gave systematic lectures on core knowledge of frontier research fields including precision measurement, cryogenic technology and cosmic ray data processing. Combined with on-site demonstrations, they presented a range of advanced experimental equipment and landmark research achievements in an intuitive manner. The group also visited the AMS Data Center, which maintains real-time data connectivity with the AMS instrument mounted on the International Space Station 400 kilometers above Earth. Through the display screens, they gained a firsthand glimpse of the cutting-edge scientific pursuit of dark matter, antimatter and the origins of cosmic rays. Faculty and students raised questions actively throughout the event and engaged in in-depth discussions with the research staff. Within a relaxed yet rigorous communication atmosphere, participants learned how large international science projects are realized step by step, and acquired deeper insights into the scientific spirit of long-term dedication to sustained research.

Faculty and students noted that basic research lays the foundation for scientific and technological innovation. To cope with global technological competition and achieve self-reliance and strength in high-level science and technology, it is critical to foster broad international vision and extensive exchanges and cooperation. As the younger generation, they pledged to integrate personal aspirations into the broader national development agenda, stay grounded while striving for scientific breakthroughs, and dedicate their youthful vitality to the innovative development of Shandong Province and the building of a powerful country in science and technology through steady academic progress
